WELCOME TO THE STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM'S HALL OF FAME

US SENATOR BEN NIGHTHORSE CAMPBELL

Hall of Fame Inductee - 2001

Senator Campbell is the strongest advocate and best friend motorcyclists have in Washington, D.C.  In 1995 Senator Campbell lead a successful effort to repeal the federal helmet law.  After years of work, building support for the issue, he spent over 16 hours leading a debate on the Senate floor that resulted in a 64-36 vote to repeal the federal helmet law and a 60-39 vote to kill an amendment to deny federal benefits to non helmeted riders who were injured.

Since his election in 1992 Senator Campbell has spoken out against insurance companies intent on denying coverage to motorcyclists; kept millions of acres of California desert open to off-road motorcyclists; defended the right of motorcyclists to use HOV lanes; kept motorcycle safety funded through NHTSA; made certain that the development of the Intelligent Transportation System took motorcyclists needs into consideration; and fought to make certain that motorcyclist could not be denied access to any highway or road that used federal highway funds for planning, construction or maintenance.
