BRIAN & LAURA KLOCK
Hall of Fame Inductee – 2012
Brian & Laura Klock are owners of Klock Werks Kustom Cycles in Mitchell, South Dakota. These two are accomplished individuals who have teamed up to make the whole more than the sum of its parts. Brian grew up in South Dakota and built his first custom motorcycle in the 1990s. Laura grew up in Wisconsin and was also customizing motorcycles and entering them in competitions. In those early days, Brian would have been happy to work on motorcycles all day, but thanks to a couple of mentors and later his relationship with Laura, Brian went beyond wrenching to designing and distributing parts through a growing company and a distributor network.
In 2006, Klock Werks was showcased on Discovery Channel’s Biker Build Off, where the team built the first custom bagger to be built on that show. The bike featured a number of Klock Werks new parts. As soon as the build off was complete, the team took that very bagger to Bonneville, where Laura piloted it to an AMA World Land Speed Record. In the following two years, Laura’s two daughters both joined her in breaking land speed records, making them the first every mother-daughter-daughter trio to hold land speed records. In 2011, Brian joined the rest of the family by breaking a land speed record on a supercharged Dyna.
Laura recently started a new chapter by founding an organization called “Helping with Horsepower” which aims to design volunteer programs that empower, encourage, and raise funds for worthy charities. The Helping with Horsepower Bike Re-Build program is designed to teach life lessons through hands on learning, using motorcycles as a tool. The program has grown to encompass projects in three states that work to encourage at-risk girls to develop life skills.
